Two 84-inch sofas run down the side walls facing each other, a 54 by 40 inch upholstered ottoman sits between them, and the whole arrangement points at the fireplace on the 168-inch short wall. A pair of armchairs closes the foot of the group, which makes it a proper U rather than two rows. The ottoman is doing real work here: at 40 inches wide it leaves 28 inches of clear floor on each side, so the room's cross routes run through the seating group instead of around it, and a tray on top turns it into the coffee table. The TV goes on the left wall below the seating, at 90 degrees to both sofas, which is the honest cost of a fireplace-first plan.
